The Lobster Bar (closed down)

March 5, 2014

Living in Taipei, there’s always something going on and you will never have to worry about running out of new restaurants to try. The Lobster Bar, opened just six months ago, is one of the new restaurants I decided to try out during my stay in the city.Located in the Eastern district of Taipei, the restaurant is only a few blocks away from MRT Zhongxiao Fuxing station. The restaurant embodies the essence of a New American gastropub, serving a number of seafood, New American comfort food, and tapas dining options.

The decor gives the restaurant a great sense of style. With vintage light fixtures, minimalist table settings, leather couch seats, cool art pieces hanging on the walls, neon lights and the overall dark color tone makes it understated yet luxurious.

My friend and I went on a weekday for lunch. There were only two other groups of people besides us. For lunch menu, there are only eight lunch combinations available; you can either choose the $480NT or the $580NT option, and each option has 4 entrees to choose from. I ordered the uni pasta and my friend got the truffle risotto with duck breast. All lunch combinations come with soup, salad (happened to be stir fry veggies the day we went), and a drink of your choice.

I absolutely LOVE the uni pasta! The uni is fresh, the seasoning and the tenderness of the pasta noodle are both so tasty! The vegetable soup is also a wonderful surprise. Great ingredients, just a slight bit salty but it’s very warm and perfect on a cold day. I finished the whole bowl in no time. My friend’s risotto has a very good creaminess and slightly clingy texture. The risotto is topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese, that’s one extra point right there! However, I actually like the mushrooms better than the duck breasts.

Overall, this place is a cool place to go when you’re craving seafood or just want to hang around and grab a drink with your friends. I didn’t really enjoy the service and thought that it could have been better. I give it a 4/5 and I can’t wait to come back again and try their lobster rolls and all kinds of seafood goodies!

Ps. make sure you take a picture with the cheesy but super cute sign outside the restaurant!
