Pig & Pepper

Even hiding in the quiet alley where not much else going on near MRT DA AN Station, Pig & Pepper still grabs your attention by its beautiful bright yellow double door and its fun decor behind the french windows.

Pig & Pepper serves a wide array of New American cuisine with an innovative touch. My friend and my sister have been wanting to try out this place before they fly back to California, so I decided to tag along! *I DID NOT invite myself just to be clear haha.​​ Walking into Pig & Pepper, you can see several art pieces hanging on the walls. The ambiance is very playful yet sophisticated. It's one of those places where you can sit and talk to your friends without trying to shout louder than the music and scream at each other.

​My friend Andy ordered a Scallop Salad (NT$420) drizzled with Pomelo Vinaigrette dressing, which I also wanted to order but they ran out of scallops. I was disappointed because the restaurant was not even half full during the whole 2 hours we were there. The Scallop Salad has 5 grilled scallops and some mixed greens, but the portion's REALLY small. A big thumb up for the Pomelo Vinaigrette tho, it has a grapefruit-like taste and it adds that bit of sweetness without being too overpowering.

My sister and I ordered a Pork Jowl Caesar Salad (NT$380), Grilled Squid with Marinated Cherry Tomatoes (NT$260), and Grilled Shrimp Skewers (NT$590) to share. The Pork Jowl Caesar Salad's portion was a little bit bigger than the Scallop Salad. There were a generous amount of pork slices in the salad but they tasted fairly dry. I also thought the size of the bread pieces could've been a slightly smaller.


I was really excited about the Grilled Squid with Marinated Cherry Tomatoes. I love love love squid and tomatoes. But I gotta say, the cherry tomatoes tasted better than the squid. My sister and I both thought the squid was a bit undercooked, the texture was not chewy, instead, it was soggy in the inner layer. The cherry tomatoes on the other hand, was well marinated.

Last but not least, the Grilled Shrimp Skewers. They came with some couscous and yogurt sauce. The skewers were really salty (I don't know if it has always been this salty, or it's just a one-time thing). If you do order this item on your visit, make sure you squeeze some lemon juice on your skewers to lessen the saltiness. Pig & Pepper definitely gives a relaxed yet classy vibe. However, I would probably only come back to enjoy the atmosphere rather than the food (though the dishes do look pretty on camera).
