Beat The Heat: 5 Spots to Cool Off In Taipei

September 7, 2014

The weather during summer in Taiwan has been my biggest complaint ever since I moved back from the golden state California where the weather is always nice and beautiful.

The temperature in Taipei has been hitting 34, 35 degree celsius during daytime for several weeks already and it literally feels like we're all living in a giant sauna. The minute, no, the second I step out of my house, I'd start sweating. I'm pretty sure some of you sweat like crazy just standing there doing nothing. So, this is exactly what this particular blog post is for, I'm going to quickly talk about 5 places I visited that offer some cool and icy treats to beat the heat!

1. Juice*8 (closed permanently)

I call it the Taipei version of Jamba juice. However, the juices here are so much healthier than Jamba juice because all juices/smoothies are made from fresh fruits and veggies. You also have the option of having it ice-blended or off-ice. They also have fruit popsicles!

2. 小確幸紅茶牛奶合作社 at Huashan 1914 Creative Park

Famous for their  black milk tea, which you can choose how much milk you want in your black tea (little, medium, or alot), and their hipster artsy looking logo. Besides the black milk tea, this place also serves 3 different grilled cheese sandwiches and apple tart.

3. 8% ice 冰淇淋專門店 (closed PErmanently)

An ice cream parlor that not only serves your typical gelato but with unusual flavors such as brown rice matcha, hojicha with honey, banana with walnut, and wedding imperial. My favorite is the french blue earl grey gelato! Besides gelato, 8% also offers sorbet and soft serve. The flavors do vary daily.

4. SEASON Cuisine Patissiartism

This is probably old news to some of you guys. If you've been reading my blog, you'd know this ice cream was featured in my previous review on SEASON. This 100% edible ice cream pot consists of 5 layers. From top to bottom: chocolate crumbles, pop rocks (popping candy), mint ice cream, caramel sauce, and chocolate cake. When you scoop down the pot, all 5 layers are perfectly in place and consistent.

02 2708 5299 (DunHua South Rd Location)

5. Honey Creme (closed Permanently)

The famous and popular Korean ice cream shop Honey Creme brings the concept of creative ice cream to Taipei. Honey Creme serves not just regular milk soft serve but also soft serve with honey drizzle, honey comb, cotton candy, and even caramel popcorn! Their ice cream is known to be super rich and extra creamy.

What's in the picture? Honey Comb Soft Serve (NT$150)

Address: 1F, No,8, Sec 1 Dunhua South Rd.,  Da'an District, Taipei, Taiwan (台北市大安區敦化南路一段169巷8號1樓)
Tel: 02 2740 7070

**My friends and I were so disappointed. My two friends and I shared one soft serve and we couldn't even finish it because the buttery soft serve itself had a fishy and weird taste, the honey comb tasted like plastic and it's overwhelmingly sweet. We only ate 1/4 of the ice cream and had to toss it away :( also I think it's a little over priced.
